Abstract
From its beginnings during the slave trade of the 17th century all the way to present day, blues music has outlasted the changing tide of popular music to remain one of the most influential musical genres in history. African American blues music shaped music from a broad range of styles and impacted some of the biggest names in music in the 1960s and '70s, some of whom named it as the most influential musical element on their careers.
