Abstract
The purpose of this supplemental curriculum is to determine if the use of therapy dogs would make positive differences in students' attitudes towards reading. The project would target a small control group of 2 students per grade level, grades K-4. During the project each student is provided an hour long session per week, over ten week's time, reading with a therapy dog and volunteer handler. Research has shown successful impact in the use of therapy dogs to assist low-level readers in one-on-one instruction, relating to a more positive, willing attitude towards reading on an individual and group basis.
