Research Project Abstract
“Shelling For Courage” is a creative non-fiction essay focusing on the intricate beauty and diversity of shells. I include both my own experience “shelling” in Florida and examine how other people have used shells in human history, as well as how shells have repurposed themselves to be the protectors of numerous species. I used a multitude of sources to construct this piece: YouTube videos, scholarly-reviewed journals (Marine Biology), and articles from The New Yorker. These sources helped me to create an artful description of shells including their chemical composition and the vast variety that exist in the world.
