Research Project Abstract
As a society, we face increasing and intensifying environmental issues, including climate change, pollution, species extinction and more. Establishing personal experiences in nature through outdoor exposure is one way to create lasting connections to natural places and encourage environmental stewardship. We are working with Reardan High School to develop standards-based environmental education lessons and a field trip to Deep Creek Preserve (Reardan, WA). We expect this experience to connect students with the ecosystems in their community, inspire protection, and emphasize the importance of scientific research. Fostering authentic connections to nature is an essential tool for addressing environmental issues.
