Research Project Abstract

Lake Arthur Community Project Serena Carmona-Hester, Isobel Smith, Jake Simons, Paul Leonetti, Grant Geisler, and Gabriel Dutra Green spaces are beneficial to human health and community vitality, and with the increase of urbanization, green spaces are disappearing in our cities. As a natural area on Gonzaga’s campus, Lake Arthur has the potential to provide the benefits of a green space to the Logan and Gonzaga communities. This project intends to foster a deeper connection and understanding between the communities and Lake Arthur by creating a public informational website, establishing a monitoring protocol to measure the Lake’s water quality, conducting a social survey to gauge public opinion about Lake Arthur, and hosting a community event to promote the lake as a community resource. This project will promote local knowledge of, and presence at Lake Arthur, and aims to increase community health and vitality.
