Research Project Abstract
Faith in the Line of Fire This research addresses the intersectionality of gender, sexuality, and faith, and investigates the role and transformation people undergo when exposed to extreme circumstances. It is based on three formal interviews with Fire Fighters, and is inspired by the following questions: why do women remain underrepresented in such careers? Do these professions appeal only to a certain type of woman? What continues to mold stereotypes and perpetuate the idea of what is a “man’s job”? How does faith affect men and women differently? Do extreme circumstances make someone grow within their faith? Are these individuals at the origin of faith, or do such circumstances lead to a rejection of faith?
