With the various modes of communication it affords, the internet offers a productive platform of endless opportunity for academic consultation. This research paper will explore, compare, and contrast the characteristics of online and face to face consultation, examining the advantages and disadvantages of both. Additionally, it will inform readers on skills and strategies that are needed for creating an online consultation space and ensuring student success. The paper will include research from consultation guides, consultation websites, consultants, and students, offering perspectives on both synchronous and asynchronous methods, and approaching the subject from the side of both consultant and student.
