Research Project Abstract

I will be conducting a study of Division 1 female rowers at Gonzaga University though in depth interviews with twelve athletes to look at the social effects of being a Division 1 athlete at the collegiate level. I hope to gain an insight of what it is like for them to be college students, while balancing their schedules with practices and competitions and how it makes them feel in relation to their community. I am working off of Adler and Adlers' work about the relationship of athletic participation and athletic performance and Joy Gayles and Shouping Hu's study on student engagement and sport participation, as well as other scholars. My research question is: What are the experiences and challenges that Division 1 female rowers face during their time in college?
