The Connection between the Common Core & Standardized Test Scores
Research Project Abstract
In this presentation, audience members will learn about the connection between math common core state standards and standardized test scores. Before one can realize the connection, one must understand the basics of common core and standardized tests. Background knowledge of both topics will be presented. Once knowledge has been covered, I will demonstrate a connection between the two and compare school districts in Washington State. I will show statistics based on the three largest school districts in the state as well as a comparison of Spokane public schools and the Mead school district. The main focus of these comparisons is fourth grade math. Overall, this presentation should give the audience a better understanding of common core state standards and the connection to standardized test scores as well as to get people thinking about what other factors could be causing this connection.
